History Timeline
1833 – Abolition of religious orders and confiscation of their property (including artwork from monasteries)
1884 – The National Ancient Art Museum (MNAA) was created and housed in the Palácio Alvor (also known as “Janelas Verdes Palace”
1916 – The St. Vincent panels were installed in the museum
1940 – Expansion of facilities by acquisition of the nearby former St Albert Carmelite monastery which was transformed into an annex connected by a footbridge; The convent’s 18th century chapel (baroque style) has been incorporated into the museum
