More details
- Circular Tower: influenced by the Lombard Romanesque aesthetic, with granite finishings and decorated with terracotta.
- Ceramic Plate: a bas-relief depicting the coat of arms of Sassetti and the imagery of Saint George slaying the dragon.
- Tiles: from 17th century.
- Garden: the visitor is led along a winding path that is crossed at some point by a watercourse. A scenic and naturalistic design by Luigi Manini.
- Hiking Trail: from the Gardens of Villa Sassetti to the Moorish Castle and the Palace of Pena. Through this forest you will contemplate a varied flora (chestnut trees, oaks, camellias) and pass near the Friendship Rock.
1885 – Victor Carlos Sassetti acquires the land on which he will construct his recreational house.
1890-94 – The architect Luigi Manini overseens the construction. The building bears a clear resemblance to the castles of Lombardy.
1920-55 – The millionaire Calouste Gulbenkian resides in the Villa intermittently.
1955-58 – The construction of the Housekeeper’s Lodge and the east wing is due to Isabel Armanda Luísa Real, the new owner of the property. The Villa is renamed Quinta da Amizade (Farm of Friendship).
1984 – Sara Gabriel Teixeira Albergaria purchases the place and undertakes improvement works.
2004 – The Municipal Council of Sintra acquires the property.
2011 – As the new owner, Parks of Sintra begins extensive renovations works.
